You as a parent (and former child yourself!) know instinctively what works and what doesn't, what brings Joy and Peace to your household and what breeds chaos. Your child will observe how you behave and deal with tricky situations more than they will listen to your words. Remain calm, focused on what you want and why it is important. If it's not, drop it!
